The York Region District School Board operates four secondary schools in Newmarket, addition to 15 elementary schools.  The York Catholic District Schol Board operates one secondary school in the town, and six elementary schools.  There is also a Christian private elementary school.  Newmarket is also the home of Pickering College, an independent day and boarding school, as well as a campus of Seneca College.

The mayor of Newmarket is John Taylor.

Located in the historic Downtown area, the Newmarket Public Library provides residents with free access to 175,000 items.

Newmarket is home to the Newmarket Hurricanes junior hockey team, whose home rink is currently the Ray Twinney Complex.

There is one golf course that is located within Newmarket, St. Andrew’s Valley.

Fun Fact:  The famous actor/comedian Jim Carrey is born in Newmarket.
